Description :

When a group of close-knit friends assemble for the marriage of Skylar and Dan, they have no idea they will witness The Rapture and face a series of catastrophic events turning the celebration into a life-or-death struggle.

Review of The Remaining (2014):

Writer: itsogsRating: 8Content: The story was a little weak, especially since a lot of the information was not biblical. But the concept of choice was (to me) the most important take away. Great acting and directing.

Raayan Full Review:
As with his debut directorial effort, Pa. Pandi, Dhanush shows yet again that he can do solid work behind the camera as well. The world he explores this time is far removed from the warm, feel-good world of his first film. Raayan has a raw and rage-filled setting, and is populated by characters who are rugged, violent, deceptive and also vulnerable.

Raayan begins in the past when four siblings - three brothers and their new-born sister - fleeing their village and ending up in the city, where they, fortunately, end up under the care of Sekar (Selvaraghavan), a handyman in a vegetable market. The film then cuts to the present where we see that the four have grown up into individuals with distinctive characteristics. The youngest brother Manickam (Kalidas Jayaram) is a college student, filled with righteousness. His elder brother Muthu (Sundeep Kishan) is rash and rage-filled. The eldest, Raayan (Dhanush) is the responsible one, and more like a father-figure. It's their love for their sister Durga (Dushara Vijayan) that's holding them all together, and as Raayan puts it, only seeing her wedded and with a child would truly make them a family.

But even as he tries to get her wedded, due to circumstances, he finds himself caught up between a power struggle between Sethu (SJ Suryah) and Durai (Saravanan), two gangsters with a history between them, who control the locality. Meanwhile, there is also the new cop in town (Prakash Raj), who is silently stirring up things between them so that he can clean up the city in the eventual clash that would ensue.

Garfield Movie Review:

The animation itself is average and nothing more than that. Nowadays it is difficult for most animated films to say anything about it, given that it is most similar in style. Well, well it was not expected in advance that we would get to see an artistic masterpiece, so in that respect the film succeeds in that area with flying colours. The music was a positive point, this was in the hands of composer John Debney and at some points the music was completely reminiscent of the beautiful melancholic sounds that Thomas Newman often makes. In the end, the big picture is crazy fun and you won’t be bored for seconds. The humor is good and fun and things like Catflix where Garfield watches cat movies are hilarious. In the end, you have to stay there during the credits for the funny cat movies that continue to play when the credits start rolling.

Garfield has become a successful and funny movie for the whole family. The jokes are fun, the animation is fine and Garfield and Odie get the laughs on their hands very often. Perhaps the predictability of the film could have been a little less, because this actually only makes the film suitable for children up to 10 years old, but well, this is not something you should also care about, because the film is just too fun for that. The animation itself is standard, doesn’t excel in anything, but that’s fine. The music pops out and from time to time it is reminiscent of a soundtrack that Thomas Newman could have made. Just stay seated at the end credits too because the crazy cat movies that Garfield watches on Catflix make for a last smile on the face.

Agent full Review:
Agent is ‘wild’. The lead character carries a certain ‘wildness’ within him. He’s just wild. W-I-L-D. I need you to register that he’s wild because, in Agent, the word ‘wild’ features some 37 times, ‘wildness’ a dozen times, and everybody including the hero’s mentor, girlfriend and the villain calls him ‘wild saala.’ Now, whatever you picture this lead character to be like, Akhil Akkineni will surpass that with his portrayal of the vexingly unidimensional Ramakrishna a.k.a Ricky, who comes across as a man-child struggling to come out of childhood spy fantasies; everything he does has a dash of explosive energy that’s pushed just enough to make the whole affair very annoying.

An ethical hacker operating on his own, Ricky hacks the system of Mahadev (Mammootty), the cold-blooded Chief of RAW who is nicknamed ‘The Devil’. When reprimanded, Ricky says he did it to impress Mahadev and to get himself recruited as a RAW agent since the agency rejected him thrice — those two interviewers who rejected him might be the only smart people in this universe.

Toofan Full Review:

When Aziz Ali (Farhan Akhtar), the starry-eyed gangster at the heart of “Toofaan,” first comes across videos of Muhammad Ali, he’s hooked. Though it goes unsaid, the appeal clearly isn’t just the boxer’s athletic artistry — it’s also his chosen name. To our hero, Ali is one of his own.

That surname, and the faith that it represents, becomes the albatross around Aziz’s neck. In “Toofaan,” the Bollywood director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra attempts — with some success — to deepen the standard-issue sports drama with sociopolitical strife ripped from Indian headlines. Aziz, who hails from a lower-class Muslim neighborhood of Mumbai, finds himself imbued with new purpose when he’s taken underwing by the top boxing coach Nana Prabhu (a superbly committed Paresh Rawal). The grizzled mentor sculpts his overeager student into a formidable talent: a “toofaan” (storm).

Nana is a pious Hindu whose grief at losing his wife in a terrorist attack has calcified into Islamophobia. His passion for the sport transcends his faith, but only to a limit. When he discovers that Aziz is dating his daughter, Ananya (Mrunal Thakur), he kicks them both out. “Toofaan” takes a surprisingly gritty turn at this point, switching from slick fight montages to scenes of Aziz and Ananya’s struggle to live as an interfaith couple in Mumbai — a city where cosmopolitanism coexists with crude bigotry.

Kalki 2898 AD Full Review:

A couple of things wrestled for front-of-cortex space while I was watching ‘Kalki 2898 AD’: this Telugu language sci-fi film, set in, what else, 2898 AD, is the first comprehensive pan-Indian film. The trend which has been gathering force in the last few years has resulted in a cast which is drawn, literally, from all the major filmmaking centres in India, straddling Bengal and Kerala, and everything in between.

And the other was just how hard it is for Indian tent poles to have a screenplay which is tight and gripping all the way through. I can’t remember a recent film of this staggering size and scale, mounted with such ambition, being such a plod to begin with.

Pre-interval, Kalki, which happily borrows its aesthetics from all kinds of futuristic films (with flashes of Mad Max, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, and even, yes, a glimpse of the godawful Adipurush, and, of course, the Bahubali-RRR slate, showing major indebtedness to the Amar Chitra Katha universe) meanders, stops and starts, remembers that it needs to bung in a set piece here and a set piece there, and then slumps back again. Oh, and how did I forget Bladerunner, and Dune in terms of influences? The latter is an ‘inspiration’ for the film’s posters, in both image and font. Hard to believe? Check it out for yourself.

The Convert 2024 Full Review:

In his latest movie “The Convert,” director and co-writer Lee Tamahori returns home to New Zealand for a look at a fraught chapter in the country’s history. Bringing his action movie bona fides from the James Bond entry "Die Another Day" and "xXx: State of the Union," Tamahori hews intense dramatic moments over battlefields and tense conversations as two factions of indigenous Māori wrestle for control while British colonists set up one of their first claims on the nation. Our main character enters these most turbulent times advocating for peace and finds few listeners. This is not an uncommon chapter in history, but the way Tamahori and his cast and crew approach the topic is fascinating, even if sometimes a little conflicted.

In 1830, Thomas Munro (Guy Pearce) lands in New Zealand. After years in the military, he’s a troubled man who wants to get away from England as much as possible and finds passage to the other side of the world as a lay preacher. However, our adventurer does not find peace. Instead, he finds a community in tumult as two Māori chiefs, Maianui (Antonio Te Maioha) and Akatarewa (Lawrence Makoare), fight among themselves for control of the region, traders like Kedgley (Dean O'Gorman) supply muskets and bullets to both combatants and the British colonists in the town of Epworth ostracize anyone not British and Protestant. They even go so far as to withhold medical supplies from a wounded Māori woman, Rangimai (Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne), whom Thomas rescued from an ambush. As tensions mount, Thomas finds allies with Rangimai and a widow named Charlotte (Jacqueline McKenzie), even as war seems all but inevitable.
